A Brave New World was written by Aldous Huxley in 1932. In this dystopian novel, Huxley satirizes his present communities social values and trends, he did this when he saw what could become of civilization when science advanced. When science advanced, Huxley saw that humanity would advance as well. In his eyes it was not for the best. He twists the contemporary values into something perverted and stomach churning into his ideal country, the World State., where the three main values are community, identity, and stability. There are not wars or conflicts in this world, but that may change. Something that all humans take for granted is where they came from, it is what makes humans what they are. It forms and molds them into their future self. Humans take for granted their parents. In Huxleys dystopian novel, his morphs this wonderful bond between mother, father and child and completely eradicates the idea. All humans are created in the Central London Hatchery and Conditioning Centre (pg.3). This is where females eggs are fertilized with the sperm of a human male, and they incubate in the fertilization room. The concept of a mother and giving birth is completely foreign to this society that just the idea of sexual reproduction makes them go pale. These, he said gravely are un pleasant facts; I know it. But then most historical facts are un pleasant. (pg. 24). It also states that a mother [is] an obscenity. (pg.153). Not only does Huxley take away a mother and father, but also their individuality. The scientists in the World State have created a way to multiply the embryo s from which,..the original egg was in a fair way to becoming anything from eight to ninty-ninety-six embryos (pg.7). Not only are the scientists practically cloning the human embryos but are altering their individuality and humanity. This takes away the humans individuality, which in Huxleys reality, all humans are unique with different personalities and dreams. Don’t waste time! Not only are the infants being tortured in this society, but as children, sex is encouraged and is considered a like responsibility to others. They are taught as a young and influential age that sex is a good act and pleasurable. Everybody belongs to everybody. Modern society did not and still does not accept this kind of behavior. It is considered inappropriate and too mature of a concept fo children to understand. This can be proven by the quote that two of the characters in the novel had elementary sex. (pg.27). Huxley also satirizes religion. In the World State, the citizens worship Henry Ford, who is the inventor of the model-T. Ford practically created this dystopian society by envisioning a way to increase his workers production time. The idea of Christianity is completely erased, the classic cross we see in the religion is now changed to a futuristic capital T. In Huxleys reality, people naturally would utter the phrase Oh God! But in the novel he has changed the phrase to Oh, Ford (pg. 29), replacing God with Ford. Huxley satirizes the church services as well as religion. When one hears the word church, they automatically would think if the cross, church songs, and colorful stained windows. Well, this concepts are non-existent. In A Brave New World, Huxley has an arsenal of perverted societal values. He warps the social values of community, identity and stability into a dystopian world that is completely different from his reality.

The Raven vs. The First Snowfall During the time period of Romanticism, many great poets emerged. Two of the best poets during this time period included Edgar Allen Poe and James Russell Lowell. Throughout these poets lives, they suffered many tragic deaths among their friends and families and decided to write about them. One of Poes greatest poems was called The Raven and one of Lowells greatest poems was called The First Snowfall. Since these two poems speak about death, they are very similar in somber tone, uneral images, and gothic elements, which all create a mournful mood. One of the ways that The Raven and The First Snowfall are similar is how the somber tone throughout the poems creates a mournful mood. Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary (1). This quote from The Raven is an example of somber tone because it sets a dark tone to help develop the mournful mood of the poem. These two funeral images used by the authors are another way the poems create a mournful mood and how they are similar. The way that they are similar is that the authors are making images with their words to help the readers understand the tragic deaths they had to struggle through. Even though there are a more ways that make these poems similar, there is one final way that pretty much ties everything together. This way is the use of gothic elements throughout the poems. Quoth the Raven (44). This gothic element speaks about the supernatural element of the bird talking. This shows that the narrator is going completely insane over the fact that his lover had died. Then with eyes that saw not, I kissed her (37). The gothic element that Lowell is trying to describe is that his daughter had Just died. What Lowell wants the readers to know s that he kissed his daughter for the final time because she had died. The topic of the gothic elements is the final way the poems create a mournful mood and that the elements make the two poems similar because the authors use them to describe the death in their poems. During the Romanticism time period, two poems emerged that were quite similar. They were The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe and The First Snowfall by James Russell images, and the gothic elements. I watched the buildings pass by my window. They were the same, never changing buildings I had seen before, but because it was October, the colors were just that much greyer. I went into her room, packed full of fragrances, clothes, furniture, and knick knacks. I laid on her hospital like bed and thought about the smiling face I would never see again, the laugh that would eventually fade from my memory, the scratchy voice I’d loved since before I’d left my mother’s stomach. My grandmother always pushed me to be stronger, but it took her passing to drill it into my head. My sadness awakened a lurching desire to want to be better. I wanted, more than anything to make my grandmother proud of the baby that she couldn’t help bit spoil to bits and pieces. I wanted to be less of a burden on my mother, take her away from the pain and anguish I caused by not cleaning my room or not being the best I could be in school situations, but I’d end up putting more stress on her before I could put her in a stress free environment. Making the people that love me proud became my highest priority. I decided to take my pain and use it to bring smiles to the faces of others, just like she did for me. It was a hard change to make, after getting thin skin from all the bullying. I had to learn to make fun of myself so I could out talk my bullies without bring myself down. I basically invented the â€Å"I’m so fat† jokes. I found if I was strong enoug h in me to make fun of myself the bullies didn’t have much else they could say, the rap battle at the end of 8 mile. I decided to make as many people love me as she had around her. The hidden tears than scraped down my face, leaving a trail of their remains behind, would soon fade into a brisk smile that all would see. Being shy would no longer plague me, and I wouldn’t need a bubble to keep me safe. I opened up, slowly, and became the person I always wanted to be, with a few minor flaws, I even cleaned my room.
